Yesterday, we went to San Carlos to finally get to a beach! We got to this beautiful beach as the tide was receeding but we still got to waddle in the warm waters of, oh yes, the Pacific ocean. As the tide receeded, the many things that were hidden by the water appeared. Many seashells and garbage were found. The most interesting part of our day trip was the return to Panama City. As we later discovered, everyone goes to the beach on Sundays, so if you are waiting for a bus after 4 o'clock... good luck getting one. We ended up on what is now deemed the "party bus" where a group of teens drank rhum straight from the bottle and bouncing around their babies as they danced to the blasting latin music. Great fun. It basically took us 5 hours to get home.. sigh.Monday, January 16, 2012

Barro Colorado Island
Barro Colrado Island is a relatively small island that was created when they flooded the river to create the Panama Canal. By doing this, they altered the entire ecosystem and created this amazing protected park afterwards. A permanent 50 hectare plot is completely inventoried every 5 years.... that is amazing! We walked through the forest at night, and pictures of the many creatures I encountered... just to keep you on our toes!

Day 5
Day 4
So first weekend in Panama! Saturday I went to a sterilization clinic called Spaypanama (www.spaypanama.org) and I helped fold gauze. I might be taking pictures for next year's calendar as well! So exciting. They also had a three legged dog: Pinky! I hope I can do more than fold gauze in the future!

Today we visited Casco viejo! Kind of like an Old Montreal... wait no in no way is it like Montreal cause there's NO SNOW. It was beautiful, with part of it on the coast. Here are a few shots of it!

Day 2
So.
Albrook Mall. Took a bus, sweat my life.
Mall was nice, but it was a mall. However, found some interresting things such as a calling store with booths. Here is Timothe and Nathalie trying to figure things out.
We then proceeded to purchasing cellphones.. which was much more complicated than we thought. Here is Nathalie showing off her newest purchase!

First holler.
Alright.
So I have finally arrived in Panama. After 24 hours of traveling I am here. All I have to say is that it is hot. Feels like a sauna... in our house... outside our house...
So far I:
- Got a US customs officer to get all his other US custom officer buddies to check out "the thing in my mouth" aka.. my smiley piercing.
- Discovered there was a place in Newark, New Jersey called the Buffet Fun House... trying too hard?
- Played "Doubles" with two random dudes in the airport. Meaning we scrambled to put on gloves, a jacket and a visor and tried to rip open a chocolte bar with a spork.
And now it is 2 am and I love cold showers.
